Imphal: Manipur has a new Chief Minister. Yumnam Khemchand Singh took oath on Tuesday. With this, President’s Rule in Manipur has officially ended. The state has returned to an elected government after several months.
The oath-taking ceremony was held in Imphal. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla administered the oath of office and secrecy. Senior leaders from the BJP and its alliance partners were present at the event.
Two Deputy Chief Ministers Appointed
Along with the Chief Minister, two Deputy Chief Ministers were also sworn in. Their appointment is aimed at ensuring balanced leadership and smooth administration. The new team is expected to help the government manage law and order and improve governance.
Why President’s Rule Was Imposed
President’s Rule was imposed in February 2025. This happened after former Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned. At that time, Manipur was facing serious ethnic violence and law-and-order problems.
Due to the situation, the Centre took direct control of the state. The Manipur Assembly remained inactive during this period. The focus was on restoring peace and stability.
Focus on Stability and Governance
Yumnam Khemchand Singh is a senior leader with long political experience in Manipur. After taking oath, he said his government will focus on peace, development, and good governance.
The new government is expected to work on restoring normal life, helping affected families, and improving infrastructure. Rebuilding trust between communities will be a key priority.
Political Reactions
The BJP welcomed the formation of the new government. Party leaders said the end of President’s Rule is a positive step for Manipur.
Opposition parties said they will closely watch the government’s work. They stressed the need for peace and security in the state.
With the swearing-in of Yumnam Khemchand Singh, Manipur has entered a new political phase. People now expect stability, peace, and better governance.
